In August, three new apprentices began their training at SEGLER Training as a metalworker started: Marvin Heiduk, Leon Pfänder and Anton Reinke. The cohort is complemented by a career changer starting in the technical office, where she is training in design and work preparation. This means our team is growing by four people this month who are learning their profession from the ground up with us.
Why we train our own apprentices
Training is not a sideline for us, but the foundation of our manufacturing. We build conveyor systems, screw flights, and custom structures for clients worldwide. That only works with skilled workers who know the material, the machines, and the tolerances. We qualify these people ourselves because metal construction is not learned at a desk, but at the machine and on the component.
That is why our trainees work on ongoing orders from the very beginning. Welding, cutting, forming, assembly: they go through all areas of production and take on their own work steps at an early stage. They are supported by trainers and colleagues who learned here themselves. A large proportion of our current skilled workers and managers completed their training in-house and now pass on their knowledge to the next generation.
Vocational training secures Germany's position as an industrial location
The shortage of skilled labor in the metalworking trade is no longer a forecast, but everyday reality. Anyone who doesn't train apprentices today won't have skilled workers in five years. And without skilled workers, no production will remain in Germany. As a medium-sized machine builder in the northern Osnabrück district, we see this as our responsibility: we are creating training positions in the region, keeping knowledge within the company, and thereby securing the industrial location locally.
This also applies to career changers. The fact that an additional trainee is starting in the technical office this year fits right into this picture. Those who are reorienting themselves professionally will find a path into the technical field with us, supported by the same structures as in a regular apprenticeship.
