Screw conveyors - versatile conveying technology for bulk materials, sludge and pasty media

screw conveyors – also as screw conveyor known – are the ideal solution for the continuous and low-emission transport of a wide variety of materials: from dry bulk materials to moist or pasty masses. SEGLER offers you customized and durable solutions for virtually any material and application.

Advantages and applications of screw conveyors

  • Versatile applications: conveying bulk materials, sewage sludge, scale, plastic residues or even frozen bacterial cultures from liquid nitrogen.
  • Closed transport: Dust-, water-, and gas-tight – for safe processes and minimal emissions.
  • High delivery accuracy: Volumetrically precise and consistently delivering – ideal for dosing without additional pre-dosing.
  • Robust technology: The screw shaft runs in the product with low wear, without abrasive contact with the housing – unlike chain conveyors.
  • High efficiency: Minimized slippage ensures energy-efficient conveying – significantly more efficient than pneumatic systems.

Highest safety and hygiene standards

  • ATEX certification: Use of screw conveyors up to Zone 20 (dust-hazardous) or Zone 0 (gas-hazardous) – including economical nitrogen inerting.
  • Food & pharmaceutical standards: Finely ground product contact surfaces, FDA-compliant PTFE seals, TSE/BSE and ADI free, no product-contacting screws or bearings.
  • Chemical resistance: Surfaces in contact with the product can be coated or equipped with WCR hardfacing welded screw shafts. SEGLER offers the particularly economical beaded coating.

Special designs & functions

  • Adapted geometries: window thread for self-cleaning, paddle for mixing effect, hollow blades for heating or cooling, external thread teeth for hygroscopic residues.
  • Multi-shaft technology: Two- or multi-shaft intermeshing screws increase the conveying capacity to three- to four-digit cubic meters per hour and improve self-cleaning of adhesive materials.
  • Heat resistance: Operation up to +850 °C – e.g., as an ash cooling screw under fluidized bed or boiler systems. Use of heat-resistant stainless steels and wear-resistant plating.
  • System tightness: Pressure-tight up to +1.0 bar (overpressure), pressure shock-resistant up to 15 bar – also suitable for critical media.
  • System closure: Possible with a flap in the discharge area or by complete product filling with flow-tight conveyed material.

Typical application examples

  • Silo discharge screws without pre-dosing
  • Sand washing classifiers & floating sink stages in recycling
  • Scale transport in the steelworks
  • Frozen bacterial cultures for yogurt production
  • Ash discharge in thermal recycling plants
